From a very early age, Ken was exposed to the martial arts through the family VCR. His Father,
being a Bruce Lee fanatic, turned young Ken onto Afternoon Kung Fu Theater and all of the Chop-Sockey videos
he could get his hands on. These movies would win favor over saturday morning cartoons and video games.
Recognizing his enthusiasm, Ken’s parents agreed that the obvious next step was to enroll him into a martial arts
academy and at the age of eleven, he finally began training in martial art of Shaolin Kung Fu. After seven years,
4 Grand Champion titles, the role of senior instructor and being awarded first degree Black Sash, Ken decided it
was time to move on and open up.
In 2001, Ken headed to the San Francisco Bay for art school where he began expanding his martial repertoire. Wushu, Capoeira, Muay Thai, and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu have kept him occupied to this day. Whether it is grappling on the mats, sparring in the ring, or practicing moving fundamentals, Ken continues to further his understanding and knowledge of the fighting arts. Upon arriving at California, Ken also auditioned and became a member of the well known indie stunt group ZeroGravity. Ken would practice every weekend basic tumbling, falls, reactions, and fight choreography. Through the years they completed several buzz-worthy short films that were released online. One of their most recent collaborations, An Act Of Revenge, in which Ken choreographed, directed, and co-starred, screened at the Action On Film Festival and was nominated for Best Action Short. As he gained confidence with filmmaking and acting, Ken began to collaborate more and more with other filmmakers and martial artists. At the beginning of 2005 he was cast as the lead in the Persistence of Visions Films production, Bookie directed by Tran Quoc Bao. With great critical acclaim, it went on to screen at several film festivals including Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival, Seattle International Film Festival, New York Ace Film Festival, Hawaii International Film Festival, and the Beloit International Film Festival in which it won Best Short Film. |
